I love creating new decor from things I already have laying around the house, it is one of my favorite things to do. Not only is it free to craft with supplies you already have but it brings new life to old things that often get forgotten about. This DIY Faux Cactus Decor Craft was inspired by my daughter’s love for cactus decor and my own endless supply of craft materials.

I started this DIY project off by picking out a flat rock to use for the cactus, it wasn’t very hard to find one since there are so many different shapes of plants and rocks.

I then gathered some gravel that my daughter recently unloaded on me when cleaning out her closet. She had beta fish for a while but after losing one she took care of for like three years, she finally had enough of being the fish lady. At one point she had 5 betas in her room, I was always impressed by how long she was able to keep them alive but eventually like all creatures, they died and I think she got tired of that part.

Instead of getting rid of all of the supplies, she gave them to me. This is the kind of thing that leads to my craft closet being overloaded, I just can not turn down potential upcycle materials. So I used some of the purple gravel to line the terra cotta pot I already had in the craft closet.

The next step was to paint the rocks, the pot, and the faux cactus. I decided to paint the gravel white and also the pot. I like the clean bright look because it really makes the green cactus pop.

After letting everything dry, I added the white specks that are supposed to resemble cactus spikes. I just did a random pattern, I wasn’t worried about it being too neat.

You can always use green paint again to cover up any of the spikes that look a little messy if you are going for a neat look.

I then wrapped a small rope around the edge of the pot to add a little extra interest to the pot. Using a fine point sharpie, I wrote Live A Little on the front of the pot. It can be hard to decide what to write on your DIY Cactus pot because there are so many fun ideas out there. I really liked these phrases below.
