This Easy Pretzel Toffee is Our New Favorite!
I love easy desserts, well I love easy recipes in general but there is something about getting the munchies and rummaging through your cabinets that inspires the best easy recipes. I have found myself in the kitchen on more than occasion searching through my ingredients and making some type of kitchen cabinet gumbo.
Another thing that inspires me to go a little overboard in the treat department is when family comes to visit.
This baking session was inspired by a visit from my favorite cousin and his girlfriend. I was so excited to have them visit and I remembered my cousin loved almond bark covered pretzels back in the day, so I made them for him, of course!
It was so nice of him and his girlfriend to make the trip all the way out from Detroit Michigan to visit us. We hadn’t seen each other in about ten years and my daughter was just a little kid the last time we visited. Plus, I had never met his girlfriend before and it was so cool to get to know her a bit while they were here.
Whenever I have guests, I try to make snacks and dinner for everyone but I really wanted to focus on the visit and not worry about cooking or baking the whole time they were here. So I stuck with simple recipes, and that is why this easy pretzel toffee was the perfect treat to create.
I also made the famous trio of Rolos M& M’s and Pretzels since that’s my husband’s favorite. They are one of the easiest treats to make and I think everyone has tried them at this point. There was a theme with the treats I created, everything I made delivered that perfect mix of sweet and salty which I have always loved.
After eating all of these treats, we have decided that this easy pretzel toffee recipe is our new favorite.
How to Make Easy Pretzel Toffee
This recipe is so easy to whip up, which was perfect for my last-minute approach of making a delicious treat.
I started out by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and spreading a layer of pretzels across it.
I then added some more pretzels to the top, just to make sure that there were not any gaps on the sheet. The next step to making this easy pretzel toffee is to melt butter in a saucepan.
Once the butter is melted, add sugar and mix completely.
The next step is to add in the vanilla extract and stir. Once all of the ingredients are completely combined and fully heated, they should be a bubbling hot liquid that is easy to pour.
Pour the mixture onto the pretzels and spread around with a spoon to ensure even coverage of all of the pretzels.
Within a minute or two of pouring the toffee onto the pretzel, add chocolate chips to the top. They should begin to melt, use a spoon to spread out. If the chocolate chips are not melting, pop the pan into the oven heated at about 350 degrees, for a couple of minutes to melt the chocolate chips.
Get the Perfect Texture
After the chocolate chips have melted, place the pan into the refrigerator until hard. I usually get impatient and put the pan in the freezer after about an hour and a half.
This speeds up the process a bit but I have yet to try freezing the entire time. While refrigerating usually takes about 2 hours, putting in the freezer may cut the time in half.
When serving, I leave the pretzel toffee on the counter and as it sits, it becomes softer which is the way I prefer it. If you want a harder toffee, store in the refrigerator or freezer. Always be sure to use an airtight container for storage, no matter where you decide to store your pretzel toffee.
